About the position

The Veteran Employment Representative (DVOP) position at the Kansas Department of Commerce focuses on providing comprehensive case management and support to veterans facing significant employment challenges. The role involves implementing targeted employment plans, conducting outreach to identify veterans in need of services, and connecting them with community resources to facilitate their professional growth and successful employment. This position is crucial in empowering veterans to overcome obstacles and achieve their career goals, while also collaborating with various workforce and veteran service partners.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive case management to veterans with multiple, significant barriers to employment.
  • Maintain comprehensive and meticulous documentation including detailed customer notes and service history in the KANSASWORKS.com customer management system.
  • Conduct outreach to identify veterans who can benefit from individualized career services and spread awareness of these services.
  • Connect veterans to community resources for services such as job placement, debt counseling, legal aid, housing, medical treatment, or financial assistance.
  • Collaborate with workforce and veteran service partners to assist veterans with career guidance including résumés, interviewing skills, and job retention skills.
  • Maintain close and supportive contact with customers throughout job readiness preparation and beyond to ensure placement adequacy.
  • Represent the organization at job fairs and other community events to establish presence and expand reach.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Six months experience in planning, implementing and monitoring activities relevant to the Workforce Center or similar related experience.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Current Certificate of Tax Clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree with one year related work experience.
  • One year of marketing or sales experience, private sector hiring practices, and presentation development.
  • Certification by National Veterans Training Institute is a plus; however, new employees must complete this training within 18 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of veterans employment issues and related employment strategies.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
