About the position

The Veteran's Benefits Coordinator at UC San Diego is responsible for advising students, parents, and campus members on educational benefits related to veterans. This role involves staying updated on federal, state, and UC system-wide programs, ensuring compliance, and preparing for audits. The Coordinator will also collaborate with various campus officials to address the resource needs of student-veterans, while applying their expertise in student record services and providing guidance to less experienced colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Advise prospective and enrolled students, parents, and campus members on educational benefits for veterans.
• Stay updated on federal, state, and UC system-wide programs and compliance requirements.
• Review, interpret, and apply directives and guidelines related to veterans' benefits.
• Prepare the Veterans Benefits area for audit reviews and ensure proper documentation.
• Collaborate with campus officials regarding student-veterans' resource needs.
• Provide work direction and training to less experienced colleagues and student workers.

Requirements

• Thorough knowledge of policies, regulations, and practices with student records services.
• Working knowledge of a Registrar's Office in Higher Education and its functions.
• Ability to work with diverse cultures and provide excellent constituent service.
• Strong problem identification, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to analyze and evaluate processes for improvement.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including active listening and customer service orientation.
• Thorough knowledge of University policies and federal and California laws regarding student privacy rights.

• Experience in developing training materials for policy dissemination.
• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple assignments and changing priorities.
