About the position

The Veteran's Benefits Coordinator Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting Veteran students by providing timely information regarding enrollment, grades, and other student record details. This position involves enforcing institutional, state, and federal policies related to educational benefits for Veterans, while working under the guidance of experienced coordinators. The role requires a solid understanding of student record concepts and the ability to apply these in a diverse educational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide student-specific information about enrollment, grades, and pertinent student record information.
  • Enforce institutional, state, and federal policies related to educational benefits for Veteran students.
  • Assist in the application of professional Registrar student service concepts to student record functions.
  • Collaborate with Veteran's Benefits Coordinators on complex programs and issues.
  • Maintain composure and make precise decisions under pressure while providing excellent customer service.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with campus departments.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of policies, regulations, and practices with student records services.
  • Experience in an academic service unit involving veterans benefits and enrollment services.
  • Knowledge of University policies and federal laws regarding student privacy rights.
  • Ability to apply policies to individual situations in a diverse learning community.
  • Strong problem identification and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including active listening and customer service orientation.
  • Familiarity with common University-specific computer applications and productivity software, including Access, Excel, SQL-DSE, ISIS, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience using complex databases and maintaining composure under pressure.
  • Ability to work with diverse cultures and provide excellent constituent service.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of specialized registrar core functions such as degree requirements and residency.
  • Experience supervising student staff and providing effective mentoring.
