The Veterans Benefits Coordinator at Chicago State University plays a crucial role in managing and coordinating financial aid for veterans and their dependents, particularly focusing on ROTC scholarships and various veterans' benefits. This position works closely with the Director of Financial Aid to ensure that internal policies regarding veterans' benefits are regularly reviewed and updated to comply with federal and state mandates. The coordinator is responsible for fulfilling the requirements of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Defense (DoD), ensuring that the university provides the expected standard of service to veterans. In this role, the coordinator will review and submit reconciliations for various veterans' benefits programs, including Post 911, Chapter 35, Chapter 31, MIA/POW, Illinois Veterans Grant, Illinois National Guard, and ROTC. Timely and appropriate responses to the 85/15 report and survey requests from Veterans Affairs are also part of the responsibilities, along with updating the MOU with the DoD. The coordinator certifies and applies the correct benefit type to each veteran based on their eligibility as defined by Veterans Affairs, ensuring that over-awarding of veterans' benefits does not occur. Additionally, the coordinator will assist in developing and implementing campus programming for veterans and their dependents, attend community events to promote the available veterans' services at Chicago State University, and participate in required training and conferences, including quarterly meetings held by Veterans Affairs and the annual AVECO Conference. The role also involves assisting in the staffing and operation of the Veterans Resource Center and performing other duties as assigned.
