About the position

The Veterans Claims Examiner (VCE) at the Muskogee Regional Processing Office is responsible for determining eligibility and entitlement for Veterans benefits under the Veteran Readiness and Employment Program (VR&E - Chapter 31). The role involves providing program assistance, technical support, and administrative duties to ensure efficient processing of claims and support for Veterans.

Responsibilities

  • Process Veteran Readiness and Employment claims awards for eligibility and entitlement under Chapter 31, 36, 35, and 18 of Title 38.
  • Receive and process applications for Veteran Readiness and Employment.
  • Assign new applicants to VRC's caseloads and manage cases transferred from other Regional Offices.
  • Review and interpret information contained in the e-folder accurately.
  • Perform clerical and technical program support work for various specialists in the agency.
  • Handle administrative duties, including receiving calls and referring matters to technical staff as needed.
  • Serve as Division timekeeper, maintaining accurate records of employee attendance and tracking overtime/comp time.
  • Maintain the Ask VA (AVA) and Mail portal systems.
  • Schedule orientations for Veterans found eligible for VR&E through e-VA appointments.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required to apply for this job.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in federal service, providing administrative support and customer service in an office environment.
  • Ability to apply procedures for data entry and record-keeping.
  • Education may substitute for experience; a bachelor's degree in a qualifying curriculum may qualify based on Superior Academic Achievement (SAA).
  • Graduate education may also substitute for experience, with at least one full academic year in relevant fields.
