About the position
The Veteran's College Access Advisor at Wichita State University is a full-time role dedicated to assisting veterans in navigating their higher education journey and understanding the benefits available to them. This position involves outreach, recruitment, and one-on-one advising, ensuring veterans have the necessary support to access educational opportunities and VA benefits. The advisor will play a crucial role in connecting veterans with resources, creating customized plans for success, and fostering a supportive community for those transitioning into college life.
Responsibilities
- Instruct program students in college access workshops including college preparation, financial literacy, and career awareness workshops.
- Provide post-enrollment academic monitoring, mentoring, and advising as needed.
- Ensure completion of required applications, surveys, and supporting documents, maintaining accurate documentation of activities.
- Share participant outcome data and best practices with referral agencies as needed.
- Recruit 2/3rds of the participant roster for the program.
- Participate in veteran community outreach activities for program recruiting.
- Assist with compiling student data for annual performance reporting.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the director.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, social services, or a related field.
- One (1) year of experience in academic advising or a related field.
- Valid Kansas driver's license.
