About the position

The Veterans Counselor at Betty Hardwick Center is responsible for providing counseling services to Service Members, Veterans, and their families within a five-county area. This role involves collaboration with peers to identify individuals in need of treatment and to provide professional evaluations and recommendations for care. The counselor will utilize various therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), while also being trained in Military Informed Care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide counseling services to Service Members, Veterans, and their families.
  • Collaborate with the Center's Peer Service Coordinator and other trained peers to identify candidates in need of treatment.
  • Conduct professional evaluations and make recommendations for treatment planning and implementation.
  • Utilize treatment modalities such as Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), and EMDR.
  • Implement crisis intervention strategies, including suicide prevention.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or Psychology from an accredited institution.
  • Current license as an LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or Psychologist.
  • Eligibility for certification as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP).
  • Experience working with Service Members, Veterans, and their families.
  • Experience with PTSD, traumatic brain injury, and military sexual trauma is preferred.
  • Minimum of two years post-master's mental health counseling experience and military service experience is strongly preferred.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License and insurable driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in crisis intervention and trauma response.
  • Certification in EMDR and CPT coding.
