About the position

As an Account Manager in Outside Sales at Airgas, you will play a crucial role in selling welding products and industrial gases while providing exceptional service to our customers. This position is based in Salem, OR, and offers a competitive base salary ranging from $67,000 to $75,000 annually, depending on your experience. The compensation structure includes a target of 70% base salary and 30% commission, with uncapped commission potential. You will be required to travel throughout your designated territory using your personal vehicle, for which you will receive a $550 monthly car allowance along with mileage and expense reimbursement. In this role, you will be responsible for advising customers on a variety of products, including tools, hardware, abrasive products, and safety equipment such as goggles, helmets, and welding jackets. Your primary focus will be on building strong relationships with both prospective and existing customers to drive sales growth. You will collaborate with Airgas product specialists and branch personnel to enhance customer profitability and satisfaction. This includes actively pursuing new accounts, addressing customer inquiries regarding billing and order status, and ensuring timely follow-up on all customer interactions. You will also be tasked with completing sales-related paperwork, conducting annual sales analysis and forecasts, and scheduling joint sales calls with vendors and product specialists. This position requires a proactive approach to sales and a commitment to fostering strong communication with branch managers and personnel to support business growth.

Responsibilities

  • Sell welding products and industrial gases to customers.
  • Advise customers on tools, hardware, abrasive products, and safety equipment.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with prospective and existing customers.
  • Actively pursue and acquire new accounts with a focus on gases and product supply agreements.
  • Handle customer inquiries related to billing, order status, and delivery times promptly and courteously.
  • Complete and submit sales-related paperwork and annual sales forecasts to management.
  • Schedule joint sales calls with vendors and Airgas Product Specialists.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial sales (preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in outside sales (preferred).
  • Knowledge of welding and compressed gases products preferred.
  • Proficiency in computer applications including Google Workspace and Microsoft Office (required).

  • Experience in building relationships with branch personnel and managers.
