About the position

The Construction & Safety Sales Specialist is responsible for developing and executing sales and marketing plans to supply construction contractors with necessary consumables, equipment, and services. This role involves direct sales efforts, collaboration with internal and external partners, and acting as a subject matter expert in the Safety/PPE category. The position requires frequent regional travel and aims to increase sales and profit margins through effective relationship management and consultative selling.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement specific sales and marketing plans for construction contractors.
  • Increase sales and profit margins by presenting products and services to new and existing customers.
  • Develop and implement customer-specific training and marketing plans based on product usage in various construction trades.
  • Travel throughout the assigned territory to demonstrate products and services in office and construction site settings.
  • Monitor competition by gathering marketplace information such as new products and market trends.
  • Act as a resource for other sales professionals in understanding and selling into the construction industry.
  • Promote the Airgas E-Commerce platform.
  • Maintain required activity levels and results through Salesforce.com CRM system.
  • Work closely with preferred vendors supporting the construction industry.
  • Represent Airgas at key trade shows tailored to the construction industry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related field, or up to 4 years of additional sales-specific experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 3 years of prior outside sales experience, preferably within the building construction industry.
  • Qualified Safety Sales Professional (QSPP) certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated relationship management and consultative selling aptitude.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with all levels within and outside the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with effective organizational/time-management skills.
  • Reliable transportation, current driver's license, and minimum liability insurance as required by state.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of Google Suite of tools and CRM systems.
  • Prior experience with SAP and Salesforce.com.
