About the position

The IT Support Specialist for the project team at Airgas is a pivotal role responsible for the implementation of defined special IT projects, including network installations, phone system installations, and WIFI upgrades. This position ensures that Corporate IT projects and support are executed in accordance with the overall project plan for the Airgas North Division. The role offers location flexibility, allowing for a hybrid work environment that combines in-office and remote work, and operates on a Monday through Friday schedule. In this role, you will provide technical support and consultation for various IT projects and initiatives. You will be responsible for executing project plans by coordinating available resources and establishing effective relationships with internal IT teams, business units, and vendors. The position may require off-hours engagement for project implementation, ensuring that IT equipment, hardware, and software are regularly updated to meet organizational needs and security standards. Your responsibilities will include deploying software packages such as Windows OS and Microsoft Office, troubleshooting hardware and software conflicts, maintaining and configuring shared network printers, and assisting in the administration of WAN, LAN, and WAP equipment. You will also work closely with third-tier network teams to configure and troubleshoot new network installations, coach site contacts on local IT equipment setup, and engage telecom vendors for the purchase and installation of approved telephony systems. Additionally, you will deliver technical support to end users, addressing various IT infrastructure issues promptly and effectively, and assist in evaluating and testing new technologies for feasibility and implementation. Comprehensive project documentation, technical documentation, diagrams, and standard operating procedures will also be part of your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and consultation for IT projects and initiatives.
  • Execute project plans through the coordination of available resources.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with Internal IT, Business, and Vendors.
  • Participate in off-hours engagement for project implementation when required.
  • Ensure IT equipment, hardware, and software are regularly updated to meet organizational needs and security standards.
  • Assist in deploying software packages, such as Windows OS, Microsoft Office, and approved applications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software conflicts.
  • Maintain and configure shared network printers and local printers.
  • Assist in the administering of WAN, LAN, WAP equipment.
  • Work with 3rd Tier network teams to configure/troubleshoot new network installations.
  • Coach and instruct site contacts on the setup and troubleshooting of local IT equipment.
  • Work with telecom vendors for purchase and installation of Airgas approved/standard telephony systems.
  • Provide hands-on network and telephony functions in support of new initiatives, troubleshooting, and team support.
  • Engage/coordinate approved vendors for technical support related to telephony and network connectivity.
  • Deliver technical support to end users, addressing PC, hardware, software, and IT infrastructure issues promptly and effectively.
  • Assist in evaluating and testing new technologies for feasibility and implementation.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project documentation, technical documentation, diagrams, and standard operating procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in management information systems, computer science, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in a Microsoft operating system environment.
  • 3+ years of experience with any type of telephony and networking integration/upgrade or troubleshooting.
  • Experience in a Google Workspace environment is a plus.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with executives and non-technical customers.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, both individually and as part of a team.
  • Experience supporting a Citrix thin client environment.
  • Broad technical knowledge of DNS, DHCP, WINS, TCP/IP, with a basic understanding of VoIP technologies.
  • Familiarity with Internet and Intranet concepts.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required.
  • Availability for overtime work when necessary.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a Google Workspace environment is a plus.
