About the position

American Water is seeking a dedicated professional to join our team as a key player in implementing, maintaining, and supporting our automation and process control infrastructure, specifically SCADA systems. This role is crucial in ensuring that our operations run smoothly and efficiently, providing safe and reliable water services to millions of customers. The successful candidate will be responsible for collaborating with design engineers and operations personnel to create engineering plans and designs, monitor systems, and assist in the commissioning of automation and process control systems. This position requires a deep understanding of technological systems and the ability to apply multiple vendor products to develop innovative solutions that meet operational and business requirements. In this role, you will also be tasked with developing, deploying, and maintaining both standard and custom programming and configuration code for our automation and process control systems. You will provide second-level support for maintaining the automation infrastructure, which includes being on-call and providing on-site assistance when necessary. Additionally, you will manage automation and process control system projects, perform quality assurance checks, and ensure that all systems are functioning optimally. Your expertise will be vital in developing standards, practices, and policies related to the installation, maintenance, and operation of these systems. Responsibilities

  • Implement, maintain, and support the automation & process control infrastructure (SCADA).
  • Collaborate with design engineers, operations personnel, and other internal staff on project design and commissioning.
  • Develop programming and configuration code for process control systems and make changes to existing programs.
  • Review work performed by outside contractors and participate in factory witness testing.
  • Manage automation & process control system projects as required.
  • Perform quality assurance checks of automation & process control systems.
  • Provide second-level support for maintaining the automation & process control infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, repair, and installation of Process Control Systems (SCADA and DCS).
  • Experience with configuration and programming of PLCs / RTUs, including Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Bristol Babcock, Modicon, Siemens, Emerson.
  • Strong knowledge of P&IDs, control elementary drawings, ISA instrument specifications, and loop diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of industrial control system platforms including PLC / DCS / HMI programming / design / configuration.
  • Demonstrated ability to configure HMI systems, including Ignition, Iconics, GE/Intellution, Wonderware.
  • Excellent interpersonal, people management, and client relations skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with OPC, Visual Basic, and SQL applications.
  • Knowledge of business applications, Microsoft Office products, and productivity tools.
