About the position

American Water is seeking a dedicated professional to join our team in a hybrid role based in Rosemead, CA. This position is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and supporting the automation and process control infrastructure, specifically SCADA systems. The successful candidate will provide expert assistance and collaborate with engineering teams to create plans, designs, and monitor the build and commissioning of automation and process control systems. This role requires a deep understanding of new technological systems and the ability to apply multiple vendor products to develop innovative solutions that align with operational and business requirements. In this position, you will assist in developing standards, practices, and policies related to the installation, maintenance, and operations of automation and process control systems. You will be tasked with developing, deploying, and maintaining both standard and custom programming and configuration code for these systems. Additionally, you will provide second-level support for maintaining the automation and process control infrastructure, which includes being on-call and providing on-site support when necessary. Managing automation and process control system projects will also be a key responsibility, along with performing quality assurance checks as required. The role involves working collaboratively with design engineers, operations personnel, and other internal staff on various projects that include process control equipment or SCADA systems. You will be expected to execute projects from conception to start-up while adhering to budget and schedule constraints. Your responsibilities will also include developing programming and configuration code for process control systems, reviewing work performed by outside contractors, and coordinating control system issues between project engineering and American Water management. Furthermore, you will support maintenance activities on process control equipment or SCADA systems, perform upgrades, and troubleshoot control system issues as they arise.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, maintain, and support the automation and process control infrastructure (SCADA).
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to create plans, designs, and monitor the build and commissioning of automation and process control systems.
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain standard and custom programming and configuration code for automation and process control systems.
  • Provide second-level support for maintaining the automation and process control infrastructure, including on-call and on-site support.
  • Manage automation and process control system projects as required and perform quality assurance checks.

Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, repair, and installation of Process Control Systems (SCADA and DCS).
  • Experience with configuration and programming of PLCs / RTUs (Allen - Bradley, Modicon, Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Emerson) and HMIs (Iconics, Intellution, Wonderware or Ignition).
  • Strong knowledge of P&IDs, control elementary drawings, ISA instrument specifications, and loop diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of industrial control system platforms including PLC / DCS / HMI programming / design / configuration.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex process control problems related to water/wastewater systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data communications systems, protocols, wired and wireless network systems, and radio telemetry.
  • Familiarity with OPC, Visual Basic, and SQL applications.
