About the position

The Specialty Gases Sales Specialist is responsible for driving the growth of Specialty Gas Products to existing and prospective customers. This role involves direct sales and collaboration with area account managers to achieve business and sales objectives in the assigned geography. It is an outside sales position focused on identifying key growth markets and developing strategies to capture that growth.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Specialty Gas sales within the assigned geography.
  • Identify key growth markets including Life Science, Energy and Chemical, Research Laboratories, Manufacturing, Food and Beverage.
  • Develop and execute a strategy to capture market growth.
  • Support account managers in driving Specialty Gas sales within their assigned portfolio.
  • Identify and onboard new business while growing the existing customer base.
  • Maintain solid working relationships with Account Managers, District Managers, and other Specialists in the region.
  • Provide customers with engineering, technical support, training, and service for Specialty Gas needs.
  • Establish a process for continuous and accurate market data collection.
  • Utilize sales and marketing literature to promote Airgas initiatives.
  • Maintain and upgrade selling skills and technical/product knowledge through training and self-directed research.
  • Complete and submit sales-related paperwork, including call reports and month-end reports.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, science, food science, engineering, technology, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of prior outside business-to-business sales experience is required.
  • Proven experience and success in solution-selling concepts.
  • Demonstrated history of managing customers throughout a defined sales territory.
  • Strong understanding of medical, specialty, or food-grade gas products and processes is preferred.
  • Familiarity with industrial and specialty gases, industrial gas/welding supply sales is a plus.
  • Proven success using a consultative sales approach.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills are required.
  • Strong PC skills with the ability to acclimate to a PC-based order entry system.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of customer segmentation and ability to prioritize targeting of customers delivering the highest value.
  • Working knowledge of SAP is a plus.
