About the position

The Veterinary Anesthesia Technician plays a crucial role in a centralized department responsible for monitoring anesthetic cases across various services in the hospital, including surgery, internal medicine, and emergency care. This position involves working under the supervision of anesthesiologists and specialty staff to ensure the safety and effectiveness of anesthesia during surgical procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-anesthesia examinations to assess safety and risk for surgery cases.
• Implement prescribed anesthetic plans from pre-anesthesia to recovery, monitoring throughout the process.
• Conduct patient pain assessments and develop analgesic plans using multimodal pain management techniques.
• Utilize CASE anesthesia forms in Smartflow and EzVet for documentation.
• Set up and troubleshoot anesthesia machines and monitoring equipment.
• Maintain anesthesia machines and understand maintenance programs.
• Implement analgesic plans using local, systemic, and regional pain management techniques.
• Monitor and interpret ECG readings, identifying normal and abnormal patterns.
• Understand hemodynamics related to anesthesia and troubleshoot complications.
• Administer vasopressor therapy as needed during anesthetic procedures.
• Evaluate patient ventilation, oxygenation, and acid/base status using various monitoring techniques.
• Perform basic wound care and bandage application procedures.
• Handle blood samples properly and perform blood typing and cross-matching.
• Collect urine samples safely via cystocentesis for laboratory evaluation.
• Conduct basic cytology and blood smear microscopy.

Requirements

• Valid Veterinary Technician Certification license.
• Experience in wound care and anesthesia-related procedures.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Smartflow and EzVet systems.
• Familiarity with vasopressor therapy and monitoring techniques.
