The Anti-Cruelty Society is seeking a dedicated and compassionate full-time Veterinary Assistant/Technician to join our team in Chicago, IL. Under the guidance of the Clinic Manager, the Veterinary Assistant/Technician will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe, healthy, and sterile environment for our patients. This position involves learning the various aspects of companion animal care and assisting veterinarians in ensuring the best possible outcomes for the animals in our care. The training for this role operates on a tier system, allowing individuals to advance through different levels as they acquire the necessary knowledge and skills. In Tier 1, the Veterinary Assistant/Technician will be expected to uphold the PETS Work Culture Agreement, which emphasizes praise, engagement, trust, and support. Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential, as well as supporting the Fear Free Shelter practices. As they progress to Tier 2, they will learn to make simple entries in Petpoint, maintain cleanliness in all clinic areas, and understand zoonotic diseases and OSHA policies. They will also become familiar with infectious disease cleaning protocols and vaccine protocols, as well as the administration of medications and injections. As they advance to Tier 3, the Veterinary Assistant/Technician will gain knowledge in setting up and running surgeries, anesthesia protocols, and will be expected to mentor and train new technicians. They will also manage the workflow of the medical team in the absence of a manager and lead by example for the entire team. This position requires a strong commitment to animal welfare, effective communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while providing quality care.
