About the position
The Veterinary Assistant position at VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center is designed for individuals pursuing a career as a Credentialed Veterinary Technician. This full-time, in-person role supports students enrolled in the Penn Foster Veterinary Technician Program by providing structured guidance, training, and practical experience. The position offers a pathway to gain an associate degree from an AVMA accredited program and eligibility to sit for the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE).
Responsibilities
- Support Veterinary Technician students in their education and training.
- Assist in classroom and clinical hours at designated VCA facilities.
- Help students set achievable goals and deadlines in a structured environment.
- Provide hands-on experience that complements the Penn Foster curriculum.
- Encourage and support students in their career development.
Requirements
- High school graduate or GED.
- Commitment to complete the Penn Foster Veterinary Technology Program.
- Ability to read and write at a college level.
- Minimum of 20 hours working in or observing at an animal hospital.
- Good problem-solving skills and adaptability to changing situations.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work professionally with the public.
Nice-to-haves
- Previous experience working with animals preferred.
- Works for VCA animal hospital preferred.
