The Veterinary Assistant position at Animal Friends Veterinary Hospital involves providing support to veterinarians in a variety of tasks related to animal care. Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians during examinations and surgical procedures.
  • Prepare animals for surgery and monitor them during recovery.
  • Administer medications and vaccinations as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the clinic, including sterilization of equipment using aseptic techniques.
  • Provide compassionate care to animals, ensuring their comfort and well-being.
  • Occasionally assist front desk duties, including scheduling appointments and managing patient records.
  • Support animal catheterization procedures under the supervision of veterinary staff.
  • Educate pet owners on proper animal care practices.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a veterinary clinic or similar environment is required.
  • Knowledge of veterinary critical care, animal physiology, and animal husbandry is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with aseptic techniques and veterinary procedures is an asset.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients and team members.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • A genuine love for animals and a commitment to providing excellent patient care.
  • Certification as a Veterinary Technician is a plus but not required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, surgical prep, anesthesia monitoring and recovery, and performing lab tests.
