About the position

The Veterinary Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting veterinarians and veterinary technicians to ensure high-quality care for pets. This position involves advocating for pet health, educating clients, and maintaining a safe and effective hospital environment. The Veterinary Assistant is responsible for various tasks that enhance the productivity of the veterinary team and ensure the comfort and safety of pets and clients alike.

Responsibilities

  • Support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing quality veterinary care.
  • Act as an extra set of eyes, ears, and hands for the veterinary team.
  • Communicate effectively with the veterinary team to maintain patient flow.
  • Provide exceptional service and ensure client and pet comfort in the hospital.
  • Educate clients on wellness plans, preventive care, and hospital services.
  • Maintain proper medical charts and obtain relevant client information.
  • Ensure safety by using proper restraining techniques and maintaining clean treatment areas.
  • Assist with surgical procedures as applicable.
  • Utilize technical skills within state practice acts and NAVTA guidelines.
  • Mentor other paraprofessionals in the hospital.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Certificate of completion from a NAVTA approved Veterinary Assistant program or equivalent experience.
  • One year of related experience required, with customer service experience preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Organizational skills to carry out assignments systematically.
  • Problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues effectively.
  • Client service skills to provide attentive and informative service.
  • Mathematical ability to perform basic calculations and conversions.
  • Comfortable using computers and specialized medical software.

Nice-to-haves
