About the position

Plaza Pet Clinic is a growing, increasingly fast-paced mixed animal veterinary clinic located in Winchester, Virginia. Established in 1989 as a satellite vaccine clinic to the Roseville Veterinary Clinic in Boyce, VA, Plaza Pet Clinic has evolved into a busy, full-service small animal general practice. The clinic focuses on wellness and preventive care, offering a range of services including surgery, dentistry, digital radiography, and ultrasound. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional care to our patients. You will work closely with other skilled Veterinary Assistants, supporting our Credentialed Veterinary Technicians and Doctors of Veterinary Medicine (DVMs) in the daily operations of the hospital. Responsibilities

  • Assist DVMs and credentialed veterinary technicians with appointments, prepping patients for surgery and minor procedures, and surgical assisting.
  • Proactively set up for any procedures or diagnostic tests.
  • Restrain animals in a safe, efficient, and caring manner.
  • Obtain accurate vitals, medical histories, and note any changes in the patient's condition to the DVM.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory samples such as fecal, urine, and ear cytologies.
  • Care for and maintain all medical equipment including laboratory machines, surgical packs, anesthesia machines, and other essential tools.
  • Communicate effectively with clients regarding patient updates and questions.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED certificate.
  • Flexible schedule including some weekend and holiday shifts.
  • Knowledge of medical procedures and animal handling.
  • Strong communication skills and good judgment.
  • Ability to manage stressful situations and work respectfully with others on a team.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a veterinary clinic or animal care setting.
  • Certification or training in veterinary assistance or related fields.
