About The Position

The Veterinary Assistant plays a crucial role in providing support to veterinarians and ensuring the safety and well-being of pets and clients. This position involves maintaining medical records, assisting in surgeries, and utilizing technical skills in accordance with veterinary guidelines. The Veterinary Assistant also mentors other staff and is responsible for maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Requirements

• Certificate of completion from a NAVTA approved Veterinary Assistant program or equivalent education, training, and experience.
• Ability to multi-task and manage multiple tasks under distracting conditions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Demonstrated organizational ability and systematic approach to assignments.
• Comfortable using computers and specialized medical software, as well as Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a veterinary setting.
• Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Obtain relevant information and history from clients and maintain proper and complete medical charts.
• Ensure the safety of pets, clients, and associates by utilizing safe restraining techniques and following standard protocols.
• Maintain clean, sterile, and organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs.
• Assist with surgery as applicable.
• Utilize technical skills to the fullest within state practice acts and NAVTA guidelines.
• Mentor other paraprofessionals in the hospital.
• Perform other job duties as assigned.
