About the position

The Veterinary Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting veterinarians and veterinary technicians to ensure high-quality veterinary care for pets. This position involves advocating for pet health, educating clients, and maintaining a safe and effective hospital environment. The Veterinary Assistant is responsible for various tasks that enhance the productivity of the veterinary team and ensure the comfort and safety of pets and clients alike.

Responsibilities

  • Support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing quality veterinary care.
  • Act as an extra set of eyes, ears, and hands for the veterinary team to maximize productivity.
  • Provide exceptional service by preparing procedures and ensuring client and pet comfort.
  • Educate clients on wellness plans, preventive care, and hospital services.
  • Maintain clean and organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs.
  • Assist with surgeries as applicable and monitor hospitalized pets.
  • Utilize technical skills within state practice acts and mentor other staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Certificate of completion from a NAVTA approved Veterinary Assistant program or equivalent experience.
  • One year of related experience required, with customer service experience preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple tasks under distracting conditions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Organizational skills to carry out assignments systematically.
  • Problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues effectively.
  • Mathematical ability to perform basic calculations and conversions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Familiarity with veterinary medical software.
