About the position

The Veterinary Inventory Manager is responsible for overseeing the purchasing and management of drug and medical supplies within a veterinary practice. This role ensures efficient inventory operations and profitability by collaborating with various departments and managing supply activities. The Inventory Manager works closely with the practice manager and medical director to optimize inventory levels and maintain compliance with guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Stocking and assessing the supply and equipment needs of the practice
  • Manage supply activities, including supervising the maintenance and proper storage of supplies and equipment
  • Analyze and monitor the turnover rate of supplies and equipment and provide necessary guidance in the requisition to replenish needed requirements
  • Work under the direct supervision of the practice manager, collaborating closely with the Medical Director and Practice Manager team to save on overhead costs
  • Use personal judgment in selecting methods, establishing priorities, and arriving at conclusions relating to inventory management
  • Responsible for purchasing the best products and medicine available, staying current on new products or those subject to backorders or discontinuation
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure the practice is fully stocked with inventory and ready to serve clients
  • Meet with vendors to learn about new products and pricing structures
  • Oversee the receipt of shipment and unpacking of all inventory orders
  • Verify that all shipment documents match the shipment order and are received undamaged
  • Handle all returns of incorrect or damaged shipments
  • Ensure the practice manager receives copies of purchase orders or packing slips within twenty-four hours of receiving them
  • Monitor inventory and return items before they expire as well as return overstock items
  • Coordinate the ordering, logging, and tracking of controlled substances in the hospital
  • Utilize the hospital's computer software to accurately enter inventory data and coordinate updates with management
  • Oversee special orders for hospital clients by promptly ordering requested items and notifying clients of arrivals
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Must have organizational skills and be able to prioritize projects and execute them effectively and efficiently
  • Must be mathematically inclined and detail-oriented
  • Must have basic computer skills and experience with practice management inventory software and Microsoft Excel
  • Must have sound judgment and adhere to compliance with accepted guidelines and instructions
  • Must be able to educate staff on product lines and delegate inventory control
  • Strong ability to support the back of the hospital on a consistent and dependable basis
  • Able to repeatedly lift deliveries onto an adjustable lift table and unpack in a timely manner
  • Maintain and enjoy a clean work environment
