About the position

The Veterinary Medicine Billing Specialist is responsible for managing medical records systems, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of discharged records, and utilizing advanced computer skills within an electronic medical record system. This role includes teaching staff and clinicians on the medical record module, performing audits on patient charts and discharge billing, and creating templates and codes within the medical software.

Responsibilities

  • Manage medical records systems including receiving and assembling discharged records.
  • Evaluate records for completeness and deficiencies.
  • Utilize advanced computer skills and electronic medical record systems.
  • Teach staff and clinicians how to use the medical record module.
  • Perform patient chart audits and discharge billing audits.
  • Create templates, bundles, and codes within the medical software.

Requirements

  • High School/GED and five years of experience in a veterinary or similar medical setting; knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Vocational/Technical degree may substitute for up to two years of required experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills to interact professionally with all levels of administration.
  • Self-motivated and well organized with the ability to make independent judgments and decisions.
  • Experience with MS Office and maintaining confidentiality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree or equivalent education and experience.
  • Registered Veterinary Technician in the state of Oklahoma and/or Certified Animal Medical Coder preferred.
  • Experience in a veterinary or medical office setting preferred.
  • Basic accounting skills and/or experience preferred.
