About the position

The Veterinary Nursing Trainer at Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) is responsible for enhancing the skills and competencies of veterinary technicians and assistants through training and mentorship. This role focuses on implementing training programs, assessing team members' skills, and promoting a culture of learning within the organization. The trainer will work closely with nursing leadership to identify training needs and facilitate educational opportunities, ensuring alignment with VEG's mission and standards of care.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with nursing leadership to identify individual and team training needs.
  • Assess Assistants and Nurses to determine competency of skills through observations and evaluations.
  • Implement VEG training programs and act as the point person for these programs.
  • Manage time between on-the-floor mentoring and strategic development of nursing care teams.
  • Facilitate in-person training for Assistants and Nurses based on hospital needs.
  • Collaborate with the network and RND to expand educational outreach.
  • Work with Nursing Education to discuss program development and training objectives.
  • Provide educational opportunities such as webinars, labs, and workshops.
  • Engage in self-reflection and program evaluation to enhance training programs.
  • Ensure training content aligns with VEG's culture, mission, and standards of care.
  • Develop curricular materials for the assistant and technician training program.

Requirements

  • Credentialed as a veterinary technician (CVT, RVT, LVT, LVMT) with experience in emergency medicine.
  • A passion for teaching and nurturing growth in fellow technicians and assistants.
  • Certified as a Veterinary Technician Specialist in ECC is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in a training role or training veterinary technicians is preferred.
  • Comfortable mentoring others and providing feedback.
  • Flexibility in schedule to work with team members on various shifts.
  • Positive attitude and adaptability to change.
  • Ability to coordinate training projects with multiple teams.
  • Willingness to travel within the local region to surrounding VEG hospitals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified as a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Internal Medicine and Anesthesia.
  • Experience in emergency medicine training roles.
