About the position

The University of Florida is seeking a passionate and motivated Registered Pharmacy Technician for its Veterinary Hospitals. This role involves supporting the pharmacy operations in a fast-paced environment that caters to a diverse range of veterinary patients, including canines, felines, and exotic species. The technician will assist in prescription processing, compounding medications, and managing inventory, all while upholding the hospital's core values of integrity, teamwork, and excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Pharmacist in operating all phases of the University of Florida Veterinary Hospitals Pharmacy.
  • Input and prepare prescribed drugs for veterinary patients.
  • Retrieve orders, complete data entry, label, record price data, and prepare nonsterile and sterile medications for compounding.
  • Deliver drugs for inpatient fills to veterinary patient care areas.
  • Retrieve drug orders for hospital floor stock and cost centers per service order, preparing for pharmacist check.
  • Maintain pharmacy files and records as required by State and Federal Law, and by Pharmacy policies and procedures.
  • Participate in Continuous Quality Assurance program for pharmacy.
  • Retrieve drugs for OMNICELL restocks for pharmacist check.
  • Assist with maintaining OMNICELL pharmaceutical and supply inventory and reconciling associated transactions.
  • Order, maintain, and estimate demand for Pharmaceutical inventories.
  • Rotate stock and remove outdates from pharmacy shelves.
  • Collect client payments and process credit payments for pharmaceuticals purchased and mailed.
  • Resolve transaction questions in cooperation with client services, staff, and other hospital services.
  • Collaborate with coworkers and staff to improve and streamline processes.
  • Communicate with pharmacy team to prioritize prescription workflows and adjust to emergencies and immediate patient care needs.
  • Communicate with clients regarding veterinary prescriptions under pharmacist supervision and document communications in patient records.
  • Familiarize and assist students, residents, and clinicians with available veterinary pharmaceuticals and supplies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and six months of pharmacy experience.
  • Must be a Registered Pharmacy Technician in accordance with Chapter 465.014, Florida Statutes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong mathematics skills.
  • Ability to work in databases and word processing programs.
  • Must be able to work in a close environment under direct supervision for an eight-hour work day.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior pharmacy experience desirable: Both Retail and Hospital experience strongly preferred.
  • Veterinary Pharmacy experience strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience working with automated dispensing cabinets strongly preferred.
  • A high school diploma and one year of appropriate experience.
  • Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
