BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a Surgery Veterinary Technician to join their team in Summerville, SC. This role is ideal for passionate technicians who want to enhance their skills in anesthesia and surgical procedures while working alongside experienced veterinary professionals. The position involves assisting in patient procedures, monitoring anesthesia, and managing various aspects of patient care throughout the surgical process.

Responsibilities

• Assist in patient procedures using knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia protocols.
• Monitor anesthesia, troubleshoot complications, and make appropriate interventions.
• Perform intravenous catheter placement and endotracheal intubation.
• Conduct physical exams and monitor vital parameters, alerting the doctor to abnormalities.
• Set up intravenous fluids and continuous rate infusions (CRIs).
• Expand knowledge and skills in advanced anesthetic techniques and critical case management.
• Operate intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshoot errors.
• Manage appointments, obtain patient histories, and maintain medical records.
• Monitor patient response to fluid therapy and manage discharges.

Requirements

• Valid veterinary technician license or equivalent certification.
• Experience in anesthesiology and surgical procedures.
• Strong understanding of veterinary medical terminology and procedures.
• Ability to perform medical math and manage patient care from pre-op to recovery.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with advanced anesthetic skills such as epidurals and difficult airway intubation.
• Familiarity with medical record keeping and invoicing processes.
