About the position

The Veterinary Technician position at Heart + Paw is designed for individuals passionate about providing exceptional care to pets and their owners. This role emphasizes a collaborative and supportive work environment, where technicians are encouraged to grow professionally while delivering high-quality veterinary care. The position involves assisting veterinarians with various tasks, ensuring the well-being of animals, and fostering strong relationships with clients and the community.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the veterinarian with routine patient appointments and surgical procedures.
  • Collect and process samples for diagnostics and preserve laboratory samples for offsite testing.
  • Prepare appointment and treatment rooms for patient visits and surgeries.
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian.
  • Record patient medical history and maintain inventories of pharmaceuticals and equipment.
  • Take radiographs and perform routine dental procedures.
  • Dress and suture wounds, apply splints, and perform various medical procedures.
  • Maintain and sterilize instruments and equipment to ensure proper working condition.
  • Clean kennels, surgery suites, and examination rooms to control disease spread.
  • Communicate with clients about preventive health care and educate them on various topics.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients and the community.

Requirements

  • Veterinary technician licensure required.
  • 1-2 years of clinical experience.
  • Excellent client communication skills.
  • Ability to lift 20+ lbs and tolerate strong smells and noisy environments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a client-centric focus.
  • Interest in using technology to advance veterinary practice.
  • Collaborative nature and ability to deal with ambiguity.

Nice-to-haves

  • Fear Free and HABRI certification or desire to become certified.
