About the position

The Veterinary Technician position at Petco involves providing excellent veterinary care to patients at the Vetco Total Care full-service hospital while ensuring exceptional customer service to their owners. The role is crucial in fostering a cohesive and motivated team environment, prioritizing patient needs, and maintaining high standards of care.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients, obtain weight and vital signs, and document patient visits in the electronic medical record.
• Assist veterinarians with appointments, surgeries, dentistry, and euthanasia under direct supervision.
• Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, and handle medications as directed by the veterinarian.
• Schedule appointments, communicate with clients, relay test results, and manage client/patient records.
• Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, monitor anesthetized patients, and assist in recovery.
• Provide in-hospital treatments for sick patients, including administering medications and intravenous therapies.
• Participate in training new staff members and disseminate knowledge as required.
• Maintain a clean hospital environment and perform regular cleaning duties.

Requirements

• Valid Veterinary Technician Certification license.
• At least 1 year of previous experience as a Veterinary Technician or in a veterinary practice.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Compassionate and sympathetic demeanor, maintaining professionalism in stressful situations.
• Telephone and computer skills.
• Team player willing to learn new techniques and accept change.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in supervising staff.
• Bilingual in Spanish.
