About the position
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Technician to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in animal care and a knack for leadership. As a Lead Veterinary Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the health and well-being of our patients while assisting veterinarians in various clinical procedures. Your leadership will help direct our team and implement changes as needed, maintaining a positive and efficient work environment.
Responsibilities
- Safely handle and restrain dogs and cats for examinations and procedures.
- Proficient in drawing blood from animals for testing.
- Perform laboratory tests, including hematology, biochemistry, and urinalysis.
- Take and process radiographs (X-rays) while understanding radiation safety.
- Assist in anesthesia administration and monitor patients during surgical procedures.
- Provide nursing care, including administering medications, IV fluids, and wound care.
- Perform dental cleanings and assist with oral surgery.
- Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures, including preparation and maintenance of sterile fields.
- Explain procedures and provide education to pet owners about animal care.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
- Knowledge of first aid and emergency protocols for injured or critically ill animals.
- Manage supplies, including medications and equipment.
Requirements
- Certification or degree in Veterinary Technology from an accredited program is preferred.
- Proven leadership experience and a drive to excel.
- A collaborative spirit and an ownership attitude.
- Passion for animal care and team development.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in a small animal practice.
- Knowledge of veterinary software systems.
