About the position

GovCIO is seeking a Solutions Architect to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Veteran's Health Administration (VHA) Intake Team. This role involves collaborating with senior leaders, architects, and business customers to optimize IT investments and solutions. The architect will conduct a comprehensive review of the current IT architecture, assess future plans, and maintain an enterprise IT architecture that adapts to changing conditions. The position is fully remote, with core hours from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM ET.

Responsibilities

  • Quickly develop a holistic view of the organization's current IT architecture and business operations.
  • Build a trusted advisory relationship with Customer Technical Directors.
  • Build/augment technology roadmaps and runways that align with higher organizational strategies and vision.
  • Support and defend the Intake process for new work and change requests.
  • Monitor/interpret technology memos/policies/directives from higher leadership and recommend approaches.
  • Express and defend personal/team dissenting opinions with clarity and diplomacy.
  • Proactively and insightfully report/document delivery of value.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 15 or more years of experience managing and providing technical development for complex IT organizations.
  • Mature written, oral, and visual communication skills.
  • Demonstrated technical management experience.
  • Ability to distill/optimize/simplify complex concepts for different audiences.
  • Over 10 years' experience as a technical lead or systems/solutions architect.
  • Critical thinking and systems thinking skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Expertise in Agile methodologies.
  • Well versed in DevSecOps culture, processes, measures, and tooling.
  • Experience in Visio and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in the design of enterprise technology and developing future state architecture.
  • Experience in researching as-is architectures and supporting feature-benefit analyses.
  • Ability to tailor recommendations into actionable implementation plans.
  • Solid experience with Microsoft and collaborative tools including Teams, SharePoint, Jira.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience supporting or leading within the Veterans Affairs Office of Information Technology, Veterans Benefits Administration, or Veterans Health Administration.
  • SAFe certification or significant experience in SAFe or a SAFe transformation.
  • Experience with Jira and visual remote collaboration tools.
