The UCSF Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (DPBS) is seeking a Vice Chair and Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS) of Mental Health for the San Francisco VA Health Care System (SFVAHCS). This position is a joint appointment that oversees and coordinates educational and research activities between the DPBS and the SFVAHCS, representing and supervising DPBS faculty and staff based at the SFVAHCS, and specifically overseeing clinical operations at the SFVAHCS. The UCSF DPBS is recognized nationally for its leadership in child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric mental health, with core missions that include research, education, patient care, public service, and health equity. The SFVAHCS is a complex medical facility that ranks highly in research funding and provides comprehensive mental health care across various programs and clinics. As Vice Chair, the incumbent will oversee all DPBS faculty and staff activities at the SFVAHCS, coordinate faculty searches, and ensure compliance with UCSF requirements. The role includes mentorship for early career faculty and oversight of research activities, including IRB and grant submissions. The Vice Chair will also be a member of the DPBS leadership structure, promoting coordination across clinical, educational, research, and public service missions. In the role of ACOS of Mental Health, the incumbent will manage all strategic and operational aspects of the Mental Health Services (MHS), which includes patient care services, research, and education. The ACOS will oversee various clinical programs, ensuring that VA researchers have the necessary resources for success and that training programs are adequately supported. The incumbent will represent the MHS throughout the healthcare system and advise senior leadership on mental health issues, advocating for the academic mission within mental health.
