About the position

The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (VCSA) at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater serves as the senior student affairs officer for the Whitewater and Rock County campuses. This role is crucial in fulfilling the university's mission and strategic plan, focusing on leadership and operations within the Division of Student Affairs to enhance student success. The VCSA is responsible for championing programs and services that improve the student experience, aligning with academic affairs, and engaging in enrollment and retention efforts. The position requires a decisive leader who promotes inclusivity, teamwork, and innovation while overseeing various units within the division.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs to achieve institutional goals.
  • Build collaborations with all divisions on campus.
  • Develop programming that supports strategic student enrollment and engagement.
  • Provide communication and resources to divisional budget managers and related staff regarding spending efficiencies that maximize campus resources.
  • Develop assessments of student learning outcomes within the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Manage a multi-million-dollar budget.
  • Ensure that institutional policies and practices provide fair and equitable treatment for all students.
  • Commitment to the goals and values of UW-Whitewater.
  • Be accessible, inclusive, and interactive with the entire campus community.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a related specialization
  • Ten years of leadership experience in higher education
  • A demonstrated ability in working with college students
  • Proven history that demonstrates student-centered focus
  • Proven track record of developing and leading new programs that demonstrate successful outcomes for students
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, with problem solving and conflict resolution acumen
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of best practices in college student development
  • Proficient in project management and presentation skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with cabinet members, academic affairs, governance groups, athletics, law enforcement, administrative affairs, and community organizations
  • Ability to provide leadership, strategic planning, oversight, and coordination of all units in the Division of Student Affairs in the areas of programming, policy development, program evaluation, facilities, and fiscal resource management
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
