About the position

The Vice Dean and Chief Administrative Officer at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) plays a crucial role in overseeing the administration of the school. Reporting directly to the Dean, this position involves strategic planning, financial management, and operational oversight to ensure the effective functioning of SIPA. The Vice Dean will lead initiatives that address complex financial and operational challenges while fostering partnerships and increasing enrollment. This role is pivotal in driving transformational efforts within the school to adapt to the evolving landscape of higher education and policy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic planning efforts for SIPA, including the design and management of a five-year strategic plan.
  • Establish financial strategies for the school in partnership with the Senior Associate Dean of Finance and Administration.
  • Oversee enrollment management and set admissions targets for SIPA's programs.
  • Plan and analyze fundraising initiatives in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations.
  • Implement school-wide processes and procedures to ensure compliance with University policies and effective resource allocation.
  • Build and grow SIPA's Executive Education programs, including developing a business plan for growth.
  • Support the planning and implementation of new curriculum initiatives in partnership with the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
  • Lead growth initiatives in new markets, including budgeting and staffing for SIPA-specific spaces.
  • Oversee facilities operations for SIPA work sites, including renovations and building issues.
  • Drive human resources initiatives that align with the school's long-term strategic goals.

Requirements

  • A graduate degree and 10+ years of directly related professional experience.
  • Demonstrated senior administrative and financial leadership skills.
  • Experience in strategic development and implementation.
  • Proven ability to engage stakeholders and manage teams effectively.
  • Experience in leading a strategic vision for an institution.
  • Ability to serve as a strategic partner and counsel to senior leaders.
  • Experience in managing finance, operations, IT, HR, and capital planning.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills with a commitment to DEI.

Nice-to-haves

  • Additional years of experience in a senior management role in academia or policy.
