About the position

Princeton University is seeking an experienced leader to fill the role of Vice President and Chief Audit & Compliance Officer (VP & CACO). This position is crucial for overseeing the internal audit function and compliance program, ensuring the university maintains high standards of financial integrity and operational efficiency. The VP & CACO will work closely with university leaders and the Board of Trustees to manage risks and uphold the institution's commitment to excellence in its mission.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and organize all aspects of Princeton's internal audit function and compliance program.
• Advise leaders and managers on financial integrity, operational efficiency, and regulatory positioning.
• Design and implement risk-based audit and compliance plans across the organization.
• Foster relationships of trust and collaboration within the university's distributed management structure.
• Ensure the Office of Audit and Compliance remains current with emerging challenges and best practices in the field.
• Develop the talents and expertise of staff to prepare them for expanded responsibilities.

Requirements

• Ten years of progressively responsible audit management or related experience in an academic research setting or comparably complex environment.
• Broad understanding of accounting, internal controls, risk assessment, and compliance relevant to a private research university.
• Experience designing and implementing risk-based audit and compliance plans.
• Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to convey complex ideas simply.
• Commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards, with personal integrity above reproach.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
