About the position

The Vice President and Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (VP/CFAO) serves as the chief financial and administrative leader of the University of Hartford, providing strategic oversight in finance, administrative operations, and governance. This role involves collaboration with senior leadership to achieve the university's strategic priorities, manage financial health, and ensure compliance with financial regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and executes strategic priorities for financial stability.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of strategic priorities and adjusts budget and financial investments accordingly.
  • Advises the President and Board of Regents on financial matters.
  • Conducts annual and interim audits and produces financial reports.
  • Directs financial planning and budget management functions.
  • Manages financial forecasting and recommends adjustments as needed.
  • Prepares financial analyses for the Board of Regents and President.
  • Works with departments to develop compliant business plans.
  • Supports development and monitoring of financial controls.
  • Assesses financial requirements and evaluates capital needs.
  • Manages cash flow and maintains integrity of financial resources.
  • Provides oversight for major administrative operations including IT, HR, and facilities management.
  • Oversees enterprise risk management and develops risk mitigation plans.
  • Establishes metrics and goals for financial and administrative operations.
  • Communicates transparently with university constituencies.
  • Cultivates relationships with financial institutions.
  • Ensures compliance with financial reporting requirements.
  • Administers banking arrangements and loan agreements.
  • Maintains custody of university funds and securities.
  • Provides oversight to university investments.
  • Approves agreements concerning financial obligations.
  • Serves on planning and policy-making committees.
  • Creates operational efficiencies to strengthen financial position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field.
  • Relevant master's degree preferred.
  • CPA or equivalent professional experience in higher education.
