About the position

The Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Aspen Music Festival and School (AMFS) is a leadership role responsible for ensuring operational excellence across various functions of the organization. The COO will collaborate closely with the President and CEO, the board of directors, and different departments to achieve AMFS's strategic priorities and operational goals. This position requires a strong financial acumen, strategic foresight, and operational execution, along with a deep understanding of human resources functions. The COO will also manage the institution's $90 million endowment and engage with a range of stakeholders to align operational practices with AMFS's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the President and CEO and board of directors to support AMFS's strategic priorities.
  • Oversee the implementation of AMFS's strategic plan and annual budgeting process.
  • Manage the allocation of fiscal and human resources, including financial modeling and progress tracking.
  • Assess organizational risk and implement mitigating measures.
  • Engage with external and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment of operational and financial practices with AMFS's mission.
  • Foster an inclusive and welcoming environment and optimize resources for long-term sustainability.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a senior operational role, preferably in a nonprofit or educational setting.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience in financial modeling and budgeting processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Understanding of human resources functions, including compensation and hiring practices.
  • Experience in managing endowments or large financial portfolios.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the arts or music education sector.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal government agencies related to arts funding.
