About the position

The Vice President of Data Architecture at Fidelity Investments plays a crucial role in leveraging data and analytics to enhance customer experiences and develop solutions that help clients achieve their financial goals. This position is responsible for defining the next generation data platform, ensuring it provides the necessary compute environment and storage to effectively process, store, transfer, and protect data. The successful candidate will need to understand the business needs and constraints of the current on-premises data environment, collaborating with various Business Units to specify a common, scalable, resilient, Cloud-based infrastructure architecture. This includes establishing standard methodologies and guidelines for the data ecosystem. In this role, the Vice President will work closely with other business units, providing mentorship and guidance in implementing the right data infrastructure that meets their specific needs. The position requires a strong background in technology leadership, with demonstrated experience in architecting and building highly scalable data solutions. The candidate will also need to have expertise in modern data architecture techniques and cloud data technologies, as well as experience in evaluating and recommending emerging data technologies and platforms. The Vice President will define information architecture for key domains such as HR, Legal, Risk and Compliance, Finance, Cybersecurity, and Technology Management. They will evaluate data-related tools and technologies, recommending appropriate implementation patterns and methodologies to ensure that Fidelity's data ecosystem remains modern and effective. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with Enterprise Data Architects to establish and adhere to enterprise standards, while also performing proof of concepts (POCs) to ensure those standards remain relevant and effective. The Vice President will provide technical expertise and mentorship to Data Engineers and Data Analysts within the Data Architecture and Engineering Chapter Area, contributing to the overall mission of harnessing valuable data assets through AI/ML to modernize corporate and technology functions.

Responsibilities

  • Define the next generation data platform to optimize data processing, storage, and protection.
  • Collaborate with Business Units to specify scalable, resilient, Cloud-based infrastructure architecture.
  • Establish standard methodologies and guidelines for the data ecosystem.
  • Mentor business units in implementing appropriate data infrastructure solutions.
  • Evaluate data-related tools and technologies and recommend implementation patterns.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Data Architects to establish and adhere to enterprise standards.
  • Provide technical expertise and mentorship to Data Engineers and Data Analysts.
  • Analyze cost and performance in data solutions and recommend optimizations.
  • Define information architecture for key domains such as HR, Legal, Risk and Compliance, Finance, Cybersecurity, and Technology Management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technology-related field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science).
  • 10+ years of experience in data solution architecture, design, and development delivery.
  • Demonstrated technology and personal leadership experience in architecting scalable data solutions.
  • Proven experience in Relational, NoSQL, Data Warehouse, Data Lake, and Streaming technologies.
  • Expertise in modern data architecture techniques and cloud data technologies.
  • Solid experience in Agile methodologies (Scrum and Kanban).
  • Relevant certification in public cloud services (e.g., AWS Certified Solution Architect).
  • Ability to collaborate with business domain leads, data scientists, product owners, and other functional leads.
