About the position

The Vice President, Data Center Principal Architect role at Eaton is a pivotal position that focuses on guiding the product management cycle and influencing the market within the critical power space of the datacenter segment. This role requires a deep understanding of the IT and datacenter industries, particularly in how electrical energy and heat are managed, as well as the lifecycle of datacenters. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching industry trends and new technologies, collaborating with various business units and key account managers to formulate future scenarios for datacenters, and ensuring that Eaton's architecture offerings provide the best value proposition across all stages of datacenter design, build, operations, and maintenance. In this role, the Vice President will interact with key industry leaders to gather voice of the customer (VoC) insights, which will influence engineering choices and product offerings. The position also involves participating in significant IT and datacenter technical conferences, engaging with customers, thought leaders, and engineers to identify emerging topics central to the industry. The candidate will work closely with university partners and research labs to understand emerging technologies and establish research priorities, while also representing Eaton in academic settings. The role requires the formulation of requirements and scenarios for various datacenter archetypes, which will serve as reference points for VoC and new product development (NPD). The Vice President will actively contribute to Eaton's planning cycle, including strategy planning and involvement in important NPDs, while regularly interacting with customers and partners to deepen understanding of their constraints and requirements. This position also entails representing Eaton's technical and economic vision for datacenters in public settings and with the press, promoting the company's viewpoint with regulators and lawmakers as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Guide the product management cycle and influence the market in the critical power space within the datacenter segment.
  • Research trends in the IT and Datacenter industries that may impact electrical energy and heat management.
  • Work with business units and key account managers to formulate future scenarios for various types of datacenters.
  • Implement architecture recommendations in collaboration with engineering and research labs.
  • Interact with key industry leaders to gather feedback and influence engineering choices.
  • Participate in key IT and datacenter technical conferences to engage with customers and thought leaders.
  • Regularly interact with partners to discuss industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Formulate requirements and scenarios for datacenter archetypes to serve as reference points for VoC and NPD.
  • Contribute to Eaton's planning cycle, including strategy planning and involvement in important NPDs.
  • Conduct VoC to deepen understanding of customer constraints and requirements.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering.
  • 15+ years of experience as a lead engineer/thought leader in the datacenter or IT industry.
  • Deep knowledge of all critical power chain systems.
  • Working knowledge of construction methods and thermal management.
  • Experience in datacenter design and construction.
  • Proven track record of successfully interacting at C level with customers and channel partners.
  • Proven ability to speak publicly and engage diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge in product lines of Eaton Electrical segments is a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience with go-to-market/datacenter ecosystem.
  • Proven ability to educate stakeholders on the need for change and lead the way forward.
