About the position

BNY Mellon is seeking a Data Steward to join the Data, Analytics, Reporting, and Transformation (DART) team, which plays a crucial role in enhancing risk management across the organization. The DART team focuses on leveraging consistent data, advanced analytics, and insightful reporting to enable proactive risk management and informed decision-making. As a Data Steward, you will collaborate with various stakeholders to assist with Data Governance, ensuring that data standards are met and maintained within the bank's enterprise data management policies. In this role, you will be responsible for facilitating the creation and authoring of Authoritative Datasets (ADS), driving the resolution of data issues, and developing strong relationships with business contacts and technology partners. You will also manage data lineage mapping, oversee issue management processes, and implement data quality definitions, testing, and validation. Your work will directly impact the quality and accuracy of data content, as you will independently handle internal and external datasets, assist in data sourcing and mapping for reporting solutions, and provide project management support for Data Governance initiatives. The position requires a proactive approach to ensure that milestones and deliverables are met, including the production of high-quality content. You will analyze data to prepare summaries related to key outcomes, create and maintain associated procedures, and translate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences. This role is essential for maintaining the integrity of data governance processes and ensuring that the organization can effectively manage risk and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Independently work with internal and external datasets and assist in the data sourcing and mapping for various reporting solutions.
  • Provide project management support for Data Governance Book of Work items.
  • Ensure data lineage is accurately depicted in authoritative datasets (ADS).
  • Support and document data issues as encountered.
  • Gather and maintain data quality requirements.
  • Ensure milestones and deliverables are met, including completed and high-quality content.
  • Analyze data to prepare summaries related to key outcomes (e.g., metrics, trend analysis, supporting commentary, etc.).
  • Create and maintain associated procedures.
  • Primarily responsible for the accuracy and quality of own work; contributes to the achievement of area goals.
  • Translate complex technical concepts and analyses to non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • 7-10 years' experience in compliance, risk management, finance and/or banking technology, risk and/or compliance data is preferred.
  • Superior analytical skills and ability to assess across large data sets to synthesize, validate, and analyze data and metrics as necessary.
  • Technical proficiency with Excel, JIRA, MS Word, MS PowerPoint is needed.
  • Technical skills in any of the following are helpful: Python, SQL, VBA, Collibra, Alteryx, Pentaho, Solidatus, and DCAM.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills to work closely with various businesses/functions.
  • Proactive with high quality standards for accuracy and thoroughness, ability to multi-task, prioritize and thrive in a fast-paced and evolving environment, strong organizational skills, and a keen aptitude for detail.
