About the position

The Vice President of Data Governance is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing data and AI governance frameworks across AmTrust. This role ensures data quality, integrity, and compliance with regulations while promoting ethical AI usage. The VP will collaborate with various stakeholders to integrate governance policies that align with the company's data and AI strategy, focusing on risk management, data quality, and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain a comprehensive data and AI governance framework that aligns with the company's overall business strategy.
  • Establish policies, standards, and guidelines for data management and AI usage to ensure compliance with industry regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, NAIC).
  • Implement governance mechanisms for AI & ML models to ensure they are ethical, transparent, fair, and free from bias.
  • Ensure the company's data handling and AI practices comply with relevant laws and regulations, including data privacy and security.
  • Partner with audit, compliance, legal, and risk management teams to conduct independent assessments and implement appropriate governance controls.
  • Establish and enforce data quality standards across all data sources used within the organization.
  • Monitor, assess, and enhance the quality, accuracy, and consistency of data across departments.
  • Drive initiatives for data cleansing, validation, and lifecycle management to improve operational efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with data science, legal, compliance, and IT teams to ensure AI models/systems are governed effectively.
  • Implement model validation, testing, and monitoring processes to reduce biases and ensure accurate and fair decision-making.
  • Lead cross-functional working groups to define data and AI governance objectives, policies, and initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and training to business units on the importance of data governance and the ethical use of AI.
  • Define roles and responsibilities for data stewards across the organization, ensuring accountability for data ownership and stewardship.
  • Identify and recommend governance technology solutions for data cataloging, AI model monitoring, and data quality management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field; a master's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in data governance, data management within the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Strong experience with regulatory compliance in financial institutions, with insurance-specific experience being a plus.
  • Proven experience implementing and managing data governance frameworks, processes, and tools in large, complex organizations.
  • Experience working with AI technologies and governance of AI models in operational environments is an advantage.
  • In-depth knowledge of data governance frameworks, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Familiarity with AI ethics, machine learning governance, and model risk management.
  • Strong understanding of insurance data types and financial services regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and collaborate across departments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a process and detail-oriented mindset.
