About the position

The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) is seeking a strategic and collaborative leader to fill the role of Vice President for Innovation and Technology and Chief Information Officer (CIO). This position is integral to the university's leadership team, focusing on developing a technology strategy that aligns with UIW's mission and supports its diverse student body and global campuses. The CIO will oversee a capable IT staff and will be responsible for enhancing the student experience through technology, promoting digital equity, and modernizing administrative processes. This role offers a unique opportunity to impact students' lives and support the university's growth and innovation in a multi-campus environment.

Responsibilities

  • Devise the University's technology strategy in support of the Strategic Plan 2031.
  • Enhance the student experience through technology and promote digital equity.
  • Champion ethical uses of AI to support teaching and operational effectiveness.
  • Modernize administrative processes and improve constituent experiences.
  • Create structures for shared decision-making with university stakeholders.
  • Strengthen IT organization competencies and processes for excellent service.
  • Upgrade and maintain IT infrastructure across all campuses.
  • Enhance data analytics and reporting strategies.
  • Maintain and improve information security and business continuity strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Ten or more years of experience in technology leadership roles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in a senior technology leadership role within a higher education institution.
  • Familiarity with current trends and challenges in higher education and technology.
  • Experience working in an organization with international locations and multi-lingual constituents.
  • Experience implementing and managing emerging AI and AR/VR technologies in education.
  • Experience with privacy and security compliance requirements.
  • Adept at balancing diverse constituent needs and collaborating with stakeholders.
  • Awareness of key issues in technology including infrastructure and cloud services.
  • Financial acumen and experience managing budgets.
