About the position

Huitt-Zollars has a great full-time opportunity for a Vice President - Interior Design at our Houston Downtown office. In this role, you will be the lead Principal for Interior Design projects. The successful candidate will need to be a Licensed Architect or NCIDQ Certified Professional with 15+ years of professional experience in interior architecture design. They will have very good communication and leadership skills, and the ability to ensure exceptional project delivery for clients. As the Vice President, you will act as the primary contact for clients and be responsible for overall project management. This includes planning, directing, and monitoring all aspects of projects with a high degree of technical complexity. You will supervise project teams cooperatively with the project designer and coordinate workload within project teams while working with other project directors to manage workload across multiple offices. Ensuring project development, documentation, and its completion meets schedule and budget is crucial, as is ensuring compliance with contract terms and conditions. You will also be responsible for reviewing work, proposing changes to design, and ensuring compliance with building codes and budget. In addition to project management, you will maintain project budgets and schedules while meeting client needs, business objectives, and design guidelines. Mentoring project teams and fostering a positive team spirit that supports everyone's efforts to succeed is also a key responsibility. You will monitor internal staffing needs and coordinate client staff and their internal customers, architects, engineers, contractors, and vendors. Writing proposals, recommending appropriate fees, and participating in contract negotiations with clients and consultants will be part of your duties, as well as managing the bid or contractor selection process. You will actively pursue new business opportunities by utilizing your network and assist market sector teams in preparing proposals, calling on new and prospective clients, and participating in new project presentations as requested.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure staff adheres to HZ's policies, practices and procedures

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or closely related field
  • Must be Registered Architect and/or NCIDQ Certified; NCIDQ Certification preferred
  • 15+ years related experience in interior architectural design
  • 10+ years project management experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; knowledgeable to direct staff in effective use of Revit including coordinated 3D BIM modeling of component systems, AutoCAD for 2D designs, and software for rendering and imagery of concepts and designs
  • Must have experience on large-scale projects
  • Must be able to lead a team on projects and make client presentations
  • Extensive knowledge and experience within the local and regional market
  • Proven business development and client interaction experience
  • Strong team leadership, mentoring, motivational/organizational and people skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be willing to travel
