About the position

The Vice President of Facilities, Design, and Operations and University Architect at the University of Notre Dame is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic planning, design, and operational management of the university's campus facilities. This position advocates for the development and stewardship of the campus, ensuring that it reflects the university's mission and values while maintaining its architectural integrity. The Vice President will lead a collaborative team focused on sustainability, innovation, and excellence in facilities management.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement long-term strategies for campus growth guided by the Campus Plan.
  • Oversee the design and execution of new building and renovation projects as the University Architect.
  • Lead efforts in sustainable design and operations, focusing on energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
  • Ensure exceptional performance in safety, maintenance, utilities services, landscape care, and housekeeping.
  • Collaborate with academic, administrative, and student leaders to meet the evolving needs of the University community.
  • Direct the planning and execution of all facility improvement projects, ensuring they are on-time and cost-efficient.
  • Cultivate a culture of creativity, accountability, and professional growth among the Facilities Design and Operations staff.
  • Plan and execute a renewal program for campus buildings and infrastructure to avoid deferred maintenance.

Requirements

  • Minimum 15 years of progressively responsible experience in facilities design, architecture, operations, and capital project management, preferably in higher education.
  • A Bachelor's degree and formal architectural training are required; licensure as a registered architect is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement a comprehensive campus planning strategy integrating sustainability and innovation.
  • Ability to create a high-performing team and invest in their growth.
  • Passion for and experience in implementing sustainable building practices and operational efficiency.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with a track record of successful collaboration.
  • Experience overseeing teams responsible for large-scale capital projects.
