About the position

The Vice President of Finance and Operations (VP) is a key leadership role at the Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights, responsible for strategic management and operational oversight. The VP collaborates with the Executive Director and senior leaders to set financial and operational goals, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission. This position oversees finance, human resources, information technology, and administrative operations, managing a budget of $2.9 million and a team of over 20 staff members across multiple states. The role is ideal for a strategic finance and operations leader committed to advancing civil rights and racial justice.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Senior Leadership Team to set financial strategy and achieve organizational objectives.
  • Align fundraising strategies with organizational needs and capture new revenue opportunities.
  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations to the Executive Director and Board, especially to the Finance and Investment Committees.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and monitor progress and changes.
  • Manage all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and cash management.
  • Prepare financial statements and reports for the organization, Board, and funders.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory reporting requirements, including audits and 990 filings.
  • Lead and optimize HR operations, including personnel policies, recruiting, training, and performance management.
  • Optimize technology to streamline workflows and enhance administrative operations.
  • Manage relationships with vendors to improve service and minimize costs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA, MBA, or advanced degree preferred.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in a senior leadership role, preferably in a nonprofit organization.
  • Demonstrated success in overseeing finance, HR, IT, and operations functions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Strong leadership style that is strategic and collaborative.

Nice-to-haves

  • Hands-on experience with Quickbooks is a plus.
