About the position

The VP of Marketing for Zondervan Books is responsible for setting the marketing strategy and overseeing all marketing and publicity efforts for the imprint. This role emphasizes building strong author relationships, producing high-quality books, and fostering a collaborative team environment. The ideal candidate is a marketing innovator with experience in strategic planning and brand development, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to achieving business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and leads the overall marketing and brand strategy for Zondervan Books to meet or exceed revenue and profit goals.
  • Fosters an environment of innovation, collaboration, and execution within the marketing team.
  • Manages the overall marketing budget, ensuring expenditures are effective and within budgeted limits.
  • Oversees the development of marketing strategies and plans for major frontlist releases and all other frontlist titles.
  • Leads the marketing and publicity staff in executing plans for each release and builds productive relationships with authors and agents.
  • Ensures maximum national, regional, and local coverage for each new release across various media platforms.
  • Collaborates with sales leaders and retailers to create customized marketing strategies for individual titles.
  • Creates comprehensive advertising and promotional campaigns to support book releases.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations for key authors and sales teams at conferences.
  • Directs the consumer testing program to ensure customer feedback is integrated into marketing strategies.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of marketing strategy and brand management.
  • Understanding of basic financial reporting and sales trend analysis.
  • Extensive experience (7-10+ years) in marketing and publicity, including promotion and brand management.
  • Minimum 7 years in publishing preferred, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Publicity, Communications, or related area; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of traditional and nontraditional marketing, digital marketing, and public relations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of the book publishing process and marketing trends affecting the industry.
  • Awareness of content, branding, marketing, and sales trends in the book market, especially the Christian book market.
