About the position

The Vice President of Operations at Vulcan Materials Company is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of a divisional operating area, overseeing multiple aggregate sites and Hot Mix Asphalt operations. This role focuses on optimizing performance, ensuring compliance with regulations, and fostering a culture of safety, quality, and profitability. The position requires strategic thinking and operational expertise to support the division's growth goals while promoting effective teamwork and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Provide vision and strategic guidance for operations in the assigned geographic area.
  • Ensure compliance with Company and Division Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) policies and procedures.
  • Improve operating performance through effective planning, goal setting, coaching, and feedback.
  • Collaborate with divisional peers and President to enhance overall performance.
  • Address customer relations and service requirements in collaboration with the sales team.
  • Develop a flexible culture focused on customer satisfaction and problem-solving.
  • Ensure materials are processed according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Drive effective maintenance programs for equipment and sites.
  • Manage automation and process improvement goals for assigned plants.
  • Lead the annual operating and capital budget process for the assigned area.
  • Oversee capital projects to ensure completion within cost projections.
  • Participate in divisional business planning and develop engineering plans for plants.
  • Ensure all permits and reclamation plans are current and compliant.
  • Attend government and community meetings for mining permits.
  • Oversee training and process improvement activities for employees.
  • Maintain high employee satisfaction through proactive relations activities.
  • Lead leaders and manage financial and operating decisions effectively.
  • Identify new business opportunities and participate in acquisition reviews.
  • Champion new technologies and process improvements for efficiency.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Engineering or Business Administration or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in construction materials operations management.
  • Strong knowledge of aggregate production processes, equipment, and technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic plans.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven track record of achieving financial and operational targets.
  • Ability to interact successfully with all levels of the organization and external constituents.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills and ability to address delicate issues.
