About the position

A highly reputable and rapidly growing solar energy design and installation organization seeks to hire a Vice President of Operations at their HQ in Southeast Michigan due to a pending retirement. The Vice President of Operations will play a crucial role in strategically leading four departments: Construction, Project Management, Service, and Procurement. This position is a permanent, direct-hire opportunity that reports directly to the President of the organization. The VP of Operations will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to departmental leaders, ensuring alignment between the Project Management Organization and the Construction/Installation department, which includes overseeing subcontractors. The role requires a strong emphasis on safety, as the VP will communicate, promote, and enforce safe construction and installation practices in accordance with regulatory and company standards. In addition to leadership responsibilities, the VP of Operations will serve on executive committees, where they will recommend and implement improvements to the organizational structure, processes, and policies. The position also involves analyzing, developing, and improving compensation structures and training/development programs that support the continued growth of the organization. The VP will actively seek out opportunities for process improvement within core functions, ensuring that the organization remains competitive and efficient in its operations. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of the organization as it continues to expand its footprint in the solar energy sector.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to departmental leaders (Directors, Managers) of Construction, Project Management, Service, and Procurement functions.
  • Ensure departmental alignment between Project Management Organization and Construction/Installation department (including subcontractors).
  • Communicate, promote, and enforce safe construction and installation practices to be followed at all times per regulatory and company standards.
  • Serve on executive committee(s), recommending and implementing improvements to structure, processes, and policies.
  • Analyze, develop, and improve compensation structures and training/development programs that support continued growth of the organization.
  • Seek out opportunities for process improvement within core functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (Engineering, Construction Management, etc.) strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience executing and supporting large-scale commercial, industrial, and EPC construction projects.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop large, cross-functional teams of internal and external professionals.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regionally 15-20%.
