About the position

The Vice President of Operations/COO at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis is a high-level executive role responsible for providing leadership and management to ensure effective operational controls and systems are in place for the organization. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the VP/COO plays a crucial role in supporting the Board of Directors and leading various committees, while also maintaining relationships with senior leaders in various sectors. The position emphasizes a culture fit with organizational values and requires innovative problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a safe environment for all Club members, families, and staff.
  • Provide counsel and reflection to the President & CEO and Board members as requested.
  • Define, communicate, and ensure adherence to the organization's vision and mission.
  • Assist the CEO and Board in developing and implementing the strategic plan and organizational goals.
  • Support the Board-led Program & Safety Committee and other committees as requested.
  • Cascade the strategic plan and organizational goals throughout the organization.
  • Implement federal, state, local, and organizational policies consistently.
  • Motivate and lead the Senior Leadership and Extended Program Leadership teams to achieve goals.
  • Develop and implement plans for organizational infrastructure, including budget and personnel matters.
  • Support cross-functional interactions among Human Resources, Finance, Community Relations, Marketing, and Operations.
  • Lead the development and implementation of program and operational goals to achieve Youth Development Outcomes.
  • Coach and manage performance of assigned employees and functions.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend modifications for improvement.
  • Provide timely and accurate information and support to the Board of Directors.
  • Measure and report on the effectiveness of operations and processes.
  • Collaborate with the CEO on budget development and monitoring.
  • Manage operational processes to ensure best practices are sustained.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with youth-serving organizations and community partners.
  • Facilitate staff development opportunities and training initiatives.
  • Ensure effective execution of performance management systems and succession planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education/experience combination.
  • Documented experience leading a complex team.
  • Valid Driver's license and insurance-capable driving record.
  • Knowledge of and passion for the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs.
  • Ability to remain poised and positive in a busy work environment.
  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to use technology applications for record maintenance and data retrieval.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and develop solutions with limited supervision.
  • Understanding of Trauma-Informed Care Practices and Principles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Extensive knowledge of policies, procedures, and programs of Boys & Girls Clubs.
