About the position

The Vice President of Operations at Magnificat High School plays a crucial role in supporting and implementing the school's mission. As a key member of the School's Leadership Team, this position is responsible for advancing the strategic objectives of the school by providing leadership across all operational functions. The Vice President will maintain business operations, develop strategies to enhance management practices, and introduce efficiencies and financial processes to improve overall operations. This role requires proactive leadership to engage community members in the development and implementation of human resources and business practices that align with the school's mission, serving students and families effectively. In this capacity, the Vice President of Operations will act as the operational leader of the school, possessing a thorough understanding of financial and strategic management, human resources operations, and facilities management. The individual will have broad experience across various business functions, including strategic development and planning, budgeting, business analysis, financial reporting, and information systems. The Vice President will set strategic goals and objectives to meet the evolving needs of the organization while ensuring alignment with the Mission and Values of Magnificat High School. The role also involves collaboration with the Vice President of Mission to integrate the school's mission and values into policies, procedures, and employee programs. The Vice President will work closely with the Vice President of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging to foster an equitable and inclusive community that respects the diversity of all students and employees. Building strong relationships and employing a restorative approach in interactions with students, faculty, staff, guardians, and families is essential to address operational needs effectively. In terms of finance, the Vice President will coordinate and direct financial planning, budgeting, procurement, and investment activities, overseeing the development and administration of the operating and long-term budget. The role includes providing transparent financial reporting and planning to build trust among stakeholders, managing the school's endowment, and ensuring effective financial aid and scholarship program administration. Additionally, the Vice President will lead human resources initiatives, ensuring sound employment policies and equitable processes for hiring, termination, and compensation. Facilities management is another critical aspect of this role, where the Vice President will develop and maintain the master plan for the school's facilities and grounds, overseeing all operations related to maintenance, safety, and security. The position requires regular reporting to the President and the Board, collaboration with various committees, and participation in community engagement regarding campus issues. Overall, the Vice President of Operations is expected to embody the mission and values of Magnificat High School while fostering a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative community.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the School Leadership Team, collaborating with other administrators and reporting to the President.
  • Act as the School's operational leader with a thorough understanding of financial and strategic management, human resources operations, and facilities management.
  • Set strategic goals and objectives to meet evolving organizational needs in alignment with the Mission and Values of Magnificat High School.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Mission to integrate the Mission and Values of Magnificat High School into the School's policies and procedures.
  • Work with the Vice President of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging to promote an equitable and inclusive community.
  • Build strong relationships and employ a restorative approach in relationships with students, faculty, staff, and families.
  • Coordinate and direct financial planning, budgeting, procurement, and investment activities of the School.
  • Oversee the development, administration, and reporting of the operating and long-term budget to the President and Board of Directors.
  • Develop and manage the annual operating budget and budgets related to special projects and capital campaigns.
  • Provide transparent financial reporting and planning that builds trust among stakeholders.
  • Oversee the administration of the School's endowment and execute investment policies.
  • Manage the School's lending relationships and negotiate various financial instruments.
  • Collaborate with School leadership on employee hiring, termination, compensation, and management processes.
  • Ensure sound and consistent employment policies and adequate staffing levels.
  • Lead strategic personnel policy decisions and ensure consistent application of these policies.
  • Develop, negotiate, administer, and evaluate all employee benefits programs.
  • Oversee the physical plant, grounds, and construction functions with the Director of Facilities.
  • Develop and maintain the master plan for the facilities and grounds of the school.
  • Participate in the development, execution, and evaluation of safety practices and protocols for the school community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resources, or related area required.
  • Master's in Business Administration or Human Resources preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of demonstrated successful business management and operations experience.
  • At least 5 years of education administration and/or non-profit management preferred.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and work successfully with diverse backgrounds.
  • Sound financial knowledge with the ability to create, manage, and analyze budgets.
  • Broad knowledge of human resources best practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Gmail, and Google Drive.
  • Knowledge of finance and accounting principles including GAAP.
  • Experience with accounting and finance functions and responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with third-party payroll processors such as Paylocity and Paycor.
  • Familiarity with Blackbaud Financial Edge software or similar software.
  • Awareness of legal issues surrounding education and student confidentiality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in educational administration or non-profit management is preferred.
  • Familiarity with legal and risk management matters in an educational context.
