About the position

The Vice President of Operations for the Northern Region of the RWJBH Heart & Vascular Service Line (VP Ops - North) plays a pivotal role as an active member of the core team dedicated to the Heart & Vascular Service Line. This leadership position is responsible for overseeing the operational aspects of the service line, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and objectives. The VP Ops - North will report directly to the Senior Vice President (SVP) and administrative leader of the Heart & Vascular Service Line, making it essential to maintain a close working relationship with senior executives and other stakeholders. In this role, the VP will serve as a subject matter expert on both local and national cardiac service line trends and issues. The position requires planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the work of the service line to support the achievement of strategic goals. The VP will also be responsible for developing an integrated reporting structure for the service line’s operational areas and leadership groups, translating financial, operational, and administrative data into actionable strategic intelligence and business plans. A key responsibility will be to lead initiatives that coordinate cardiac care across the RWJBH system, enhancing connectivity with hospitals, specialists, and ancillary services while identifying and eliminating barriers to access. The VP will oversee informatics for service line strategy across all financial, quality, and clinical committees, fostering a collaborative change environment through open communication and innovative problem-solving. The role also involves optimizing the overall cardiovascular market share and service mix, enhancing referral opportunities, and executing on process improvements and growth initiatives. The VP will provide regular reporting to senior executives on service line performance, ensuring financial success through effective management of billing, collections, payor contracting, and expense management. Additionally, the VP will support regulatory and accrediting efforts and assist in creating a workforce plan for physicians and advanced practice providers, aligning resources with market and service mix strategies. Overall, the VP Ops - North will play a crucial role in improving patient access, experience, and retention while overseeing annual operating and capital budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on local and national cardiac service line trends and issues.
  • Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the work of the service line in support of achieving strategic goals.
  • Assume oversight and the development of an integrated reporting structure for the service line’s operational areas and integrated leadership groups.
  • Translate financial, operational, and administrative data into strategic intelligence and business plans.
  • Lead the initiative to coordinate cardiac care across the system, increasing connectivity to RWJBH hospitals, specialists, and ancillary services, and identify and eliminate barriers to access.
  • Direct and oversee informatics for service line strategy across all financial, quality, and clinical committees.
  • Develop a collaborative change environment through open communication, transparency of actions, and expectations for innovative problem solving.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of provider and practice performance metrics with compensation recognitions that reinforce and are consistent with value-based care models.
  • Optimize overall cardiovascular market share and mix of services.
  • Enhance referral opportunities by evaluating current and future sources while eliminating barriers to success and other inhibitors to maximizing this aspect of the service line.
  • Identify and execute on opportunities for process improvements, growth, and development.
  • Provide appropriate regular reporting to the senior executives on service line performance.
  • Work collaboratively with hospital, medical group, and physician leadership to ensure program goals, objectives, and quality services are maintained.
  • Ensure financial success of the service line including billing, collecting, payor contracting, productivity, denial management, expense management, research, and growth.
  • Support regulatory and accrediting efforts.
  • Assist in the creation of a physician and advanced practice provider workforce plan for the deployment of resources in alignment with agreed upon market and service mix strategy.
  • Optimize service capacity and productivity to continuously improve patient access, experience, and retention.
  • Monitor and improve patient service keepage levels across the health system.
  • Oversee annual operating and capital budgets.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration or related field and/or clinical background is required.
  • Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible management experience associated with cardiovascular services and/or medical practice management with an emphasis on program development, financial management, and performance improvement.
  • Proven commitment to quality service delivery and achieving organizational mission.
  • Proven track record in both strategic planning and operational effectiveness.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills with the ability to communicate effectively and to lead a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills necessary to evaluate and execute strategic initiatives, recommend changes, and implement business processes.
